The Getty makes available, without charge, all available digital images to which the Getty holds the rights or that are in the public domain to be used for any purpose. No permission is required. There are over 130,000 images from the J. Paul Getty Museum and the Getty Research Institute available through the Open Content Program. These include paintings, drawings, manuscripts, photographs, antiquities, sculpture, decorative arts, artists' sketchbooks, watercolors, rare prints from the 16th through the 18th century, and 19th-century architectural drawings of cultural landmarks.

High-resolution digital images of over 14,000 individual visual items, primarily prints, but also illustrations, medals, coins, and other objects, which display aspects of the Revolution. Images de la Révolution française is a benchmark image-base undertaken by the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF) on the occasion of the Revolution’s bicentennial in 1989 and hosted in conjunction with Stanford University. These materials were selected from across the BnF’s departments, and include thousands of images for the important collections entitled Hennin and De Vinck. Detailed metadata exists for the images, so that researchers can search by artist, subject, genre, and place.

NGA Images is a repository of digital images of the collections of the National Gallery of Art. A standards-based reproduction guide and a help section provide advice for both novices and experts. Over 50,000 open access digital images are available free of charge for download and use. NGA Images is designed to facilitate learning, enrichment, enjoyment, and exploration.

The British Library's Flickr page has millions of images for anyone to use, remix and repurpose. These images were taken from the pages of over 65,000 digitized books from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Images include maps, geological diagrams, beautiful illustrations, comical satire, illuminated and decorative letters, colorful illustrations, landscapes, wall-paintings and so much more.

This Open Access collection has more than 400,000 high-resolution digital images of public domain works from the museum's collection. These images may be downloaded directly from the museum’s website for non-commercial use.

Wellcome Images is one of the world's richest and most unique collections, with hundreds of thousands of digital images, pictures, and books, in themes ranging from medical and social history to contemporary healthcare and biomedical science.

The Illinois Digital Archives (IDA) was created in 2000 as a repository for the digital collections of the Illinois State Library as well as other libraries and cultural institutions in the State of Illinois. What can you find in the Illinois Digital Archives? Photographs, slides, glass negatives, oral histories, manuscripts and letters, federal government documents, postcards, posters, videos, newspapers, maps, and much more. Copyright information: materials in IDA are generally in the Public Domain (no longer under copyright protection). However, some institutions may have received permission from the copyright owner to make the materials available. If you are in doubt about whether you can use an image, please contact the Contributing Institution for permission to use the image(s) in question. Many of the collections have a Rights statement in the metadata for each image.

Princeton University Press proudly presents The Digital Einstein Papers, an open-access site for The Collected Papers of Albert Einstein, the ongoing publication of Einstein's massive written legacy comprising more than 30,000 unique documents.

IMSLP stands for International Music Score Library Project and started on February 16, 2006. It is a project for the creation of a virtual library of public domain music scores based on the wiki principle; it is also more than that. Users can exchange musical ideas through the site, submit their own compositions, or listen to other people's composition; this makes IMSLP an ever-growing musical community of music lovers for music lovers.

The Global Jukebox is a free and interactive website where users can listen to and learn about more than 6,000 songs from 1,000 cultures, as well as dance and other cultural expressions. The database is organized by geographic region and by culture. ACE invites visitors to use its online content for personal, educational and other non-commercial purposes.

John & Alan Lomax in Louisiana, 1934 is a digital resource for the study of the 1934 John and Alan Lomax trip to lower Louisiana, where they recorded a diverse array of songs in English and in Louisiana French. The recordings they made are part of the Lomax Collection, housed at the Library of Congress in the American Folklife Center.
