What is a Research Guide?

  • course- or topic-specific online guide to Kishwaukee College Library sources
  • some are for specific courses, and others are for topics of more general interest (e.g., Graphic Novels)
  • built by Kish librarians on the popular "LibGuides" platform
  • a place for students to learn essential information skills!

How can a Research Guide help my ‚Äčstudents?

  • instructional videos show them how to use Library search tools
  • when used with librarian-designed sample assignments, students learn:
    • how to get started on a project by narrowing a topic and finding background information
    • how to think critically about information sources
    • the concept of peer review, and how to find scholarly articles
    • and more!

What Research Guides does the Library have?

  • Visit the Library's Research Help page in myKC to see a list of our Research Guides
  • Note: This page only shows course guides for courses running in the current semester. Please contact a librarian for information about guides for other courses and topics.

Can you make a new Research Guide for my course?

  • Yes! If there is not already a Research Guide for your course, we can make one for you.
  • A couple things:
    • Due to maintenance concerns, we can't build a guide just for your individual section of a course (e.g., for ENG 103-3001)
    • However, we can create a "special topics" page for your sections within an existing course guide
      • Example: The ENG 103 Research Guide has a "special topics" page on Gender & Sexuality Diversity (GSD)
      • Please contact a librarian if you'd like us to create a special topics page for your classes
