If your course is unavailable or you need tutoring assistance right now, try accessing Brainfuse through your D2L course page.

You can schedule up to 10 appointments a week. Appointment and walk-in sessions are according to tutor availability and limitations on session length and on back-to-back sessions.

At the end of your scheduled appointment or walk-in session, the tutor may be able to continue the session if they are available and it will still be a productive learning experience. However, the total time cannot exceed 2 hours.

If you are wanting to schedule back-to-back appointments for different courses with different tutors, there is no restriction. For example, you can meet with a tutor for ENG-103 from 9am-9:30am and then meet with a different tutor for COM-100 from 9:30am-10:30am.

Scheduling back-to-back appointments for the same course, or multiple sessions with the same tutor in one day, is discouraged and there must be a 3 hour period between appointments. For example, if you meet with a tutor for MAT-150 from 12pm-1pm, please wait to have another MAT-150 tutoring session until the next day.

You are welcome to walk-in to meet with a tutor in person based on availability. If you would like to meet online, you will need to schedule an appointment to receive the online meeting link. Scheduled appointments online or in-person will have priority but do not let that stop you from stopping by to check tutor availability.

Yes. If you need any special accommodations during your tutoring session, please let your tutor know by:

  • Adding a note about your accommodations to your appointment before confirming, or
  • Attaching a file about your accommodations before confirming your appointment, or
  • Telling your tutor about your accommodations at the beginning of your tutoring session.

Tutoring is most effective when you need help understanding a concept. Our tutors can help you work through sample questions or part of an assignment to make sure you understand the concept enough to keep practicing it on your own.

To prepare for the session, we recommend you:

  • Attend class and refer often to your course syllabus
  • Take notes and mark the topics that are unclear
  • Make an honest attempt at your homework
  • Make a list of specific questions about your homework or notes

Properly preparing makes tutoring sessions more effective in supporting your learning.

  • A list of specific questions or concepts to cover
  • Your course materials (textbook, notes, syllabus, prompt)
  • A way to take notes during the session
  • A growth mindset
  • Your student ID for an in-person session
  • A friendly person who is on your side
  • Access to white boards for practicing equations or mapping concepts
  • Your tutor will likely ask to see your course materials
  • You may be asked to practice on your own with a tutor nearby to help
