Guidance for Kish Faculty
Inside Higher Ed, 8/29/25 (under heading: "Using Generative AI for Coursework")
When addressing AI use in your courses, what are your first steps? Before anything else, the ICTL advises doing three things:
Here are some tips on how to do this:
Dr. Tricia Bertram Gallant is co-author of The Opposite of Cheating: Teaching for Integrity in the Age of AI. When she spoke at Kish's Fall 2025 Inservice, she commented that students are "thirsty to talk about ethics," and in her book she gives some tips for having these conversations.
Quality Matters (QM) is a faculty-driven online course quality program. Kish is an institutional member of QM.
QM's basic AI awareness steps are shown in the table below. "SRS" means Specific Review Standard. SRSs are part of the QM HE Rubric Workbook.
For Basic AI Awareness and Communication (All Courses) |
🔴 SRS 1.2: Provide comprehensive AI integration overview in course introduction 🔴 SRS 1.3: Provide communication protocols for AI 🔴 SRS 1.4: Clearly state AI policies and academic integrity expectations 🔴 SRS 6.4: Inform students about data privacy implications of AI tools 🔴 SRS 7.1: Ensure technical support covers required AI tools |
For more detailed recommendations, please see the Quality Matters AI-Integration Rubric linked under "For More Detailed Guidance" below. This rubric recommends actions on AI use that align with QM’s 8 General Standards and are based on how AI will be used in your course.
