Explore AI Tools

New generative AI tools are constantly being developed and many of the new tools have been designed specifically for creating instructional content.  We have tested a few of these new tools and have listed the best of what we have seen below with a brief explanation and the limits of the free licenses.

Note:  All of the tools listed below have free licenses with limited functionality. As of July 2024, we have reviewed the free versions of the products listed below and have found them to be helpful.  As these new tools are developed and enhanced they will likely require paid subscriptions.

AI Prompt Cookbook

This collection of AI prompt suggestions, tips, and tricks, contains many innovative examples of how we can all use AI to assist with the more tedious aspects of teaching.

HeyGen

This free AI video generation tool can be used to create a custom avatar that looks and sounds just like you.  Users with the free account can upload video of themselves speaking and the voice and image from the uploaded video will be used to create the avatar.  The avatar can then be used to read a script that the user has created to create a short video.  The free account can be used to create up to three videos each month. Videos created with the free account are also limited to three minutes in duration and will contain a watermark in the lower right-hand corner.

Image Alternative Text and Description Creator

This free web based tool created by Arizona State University uses Chat GPT-4 to automatically generate alternative text descriptions and detailed descriptions of images that are uploaded.  We tested it with a few images of the Kish campus and were impressed with the accuracy and level of detail included in the automatically generated descriptions.

Microsoft CoPilot

The CoPilot tool is included with the college’s Office 365 subscription and can be used to create instructional content.  In June of 2024, we successfully used it to create summaries, quiz questions, and presentations as detailed in the following list.

  • Quizzes:  Here's a quick tutorial showing how CoPilot can create a quiz based on a presentation.

  • Outlines:  CoPilot can quickly create content for a presentation or a document.  We recently tested the process by asking it to create a PowerPoint presentation on significant digits for college freshmen. Copilot quickly generated content for several slides. Once content had been checked for accuracy, it was then copied and pasted into PowerPoint to create slides, as demonstrated in this five-minute tutorial, Create a PowerPoint Outline.

  • Summaries:  CoPilot will summarize a lengthy text document into a study guide or list of points for review.  In this tutorial, CoPilot document summary, a PDF document from a library database is summarized into 5 key points using CoPilot.

  • Image Creation:  CoPilot will create unique images based on a detailed prompt and provide four possible images for review, but more iterations are possible.  This CoPilot Image Creation tutorial demonstrates how a faculty member can use CoPilot to create a custom image for a presentation on photosynthesis.
